Gene Simmons Can KISS My Ass

If you don’t know who Gene Simmons is, he’s the douche-bag vocalist for a washed up band named KISS. When he’s not trying to revive his dead career, he’s bitching about the plight of the music industry. When asked in an interview if KISS plans to put out another album, he went off on the record industry and had this to say about piracy:

“The record industry doesn't have a f*cking clue how to make money. It's only their fault for letting foxes get into the henhouse and then wondering why there's no eggs or chickens. Every little college kid, every freshly-scrubbed little kid's face should have been sued off the face of the earth. They should have taken their houses and cars and nipped it right there in the beginning. Those kids are putting 100,000 to a million people out of work. How can you pick on them? They've got freckles. That's a crook. He may as well be wearing a bandit's mask.

Doesn't affect me. But imagine being a new band with dreams of getting on stage and putting out your own record. Forget it.” (Taken from this article)

Crooks Gene? This is coming from a guy who based his entire career copying Alice Cooper and putting out shitty music. Seriously, what the hell are you worried about, do you really think college students are itching to get their hands on that new KISS CD? Speaking of new bands, do you not realize how many small bands make a name for themselves through P2P networks? No one gives a shit about your music or what you have to say, you’re a fucking fossil.

It’s bad enough that organizations like the RIAA are given more power than they deserve (i.e. trying to pass a bill where a University can lose federal funding for not impeding P2P traffic), but the record industry force feeds their archaic business model down our throats. Here’s a thought: Get over it, it’s not a fight you can win. Musicians like Trent Reznor and Radiohead are embracing the digital age and offering their CDs online (DRM free) for a price that YOU decide. Here’s what douche-bag Gene has to say about this:

“That doesn't count. You can't pick on one person as an exception. And that's not a business model that works. I open a store and say 'Come on in and pay whatever you want.' Are you on f*cking crack? Do you really believe that's a business model that works?”

Is it worse than what the record industry’s business model is at the moment? How about this, you offer me DRM free MP3s at a reasonable price (and by reasonable I don’t mean a dollar a song, how about five dollars an album) and I’ll start buying CDs legally. Till then, you can shove your 12 dollar CDs and shitty iTunes service up your ass. I decided to download a KISS CD just to stick it to Gene, but my computer gave me this error:
